Change Explorer’s View Style in Windows 7

Learn how to change how files and folders look in Windows 7’s folders and Libraries.

Changing View Styles

  1. Open an Explorer window. Your pictures, music, or documents folders would be an Explorer window.
  2. Click the More options drop-down arrow at the top right of the Explorer window.

  3. Slide the arrow up or down to select the view style of your choice.

Note: Windows 7 remembers the view style you set for individual folders. The next time you come back to this folder it should have the same view style as you set.

Available View Styles

Here are Windows 7’s available view styles for Explorer and Libraries:

Basically a column version of the Tiles view.

Similar to the details view, but with larger icons and a little less information.

A column view style that shows details such as date, tags, size, rating, and many more details.

A column version of the small icons view.

Small Icons

32 x 32 pixel icons.

Medium Icons

A little smaller than large icons (64 x 64 pixels).

Large Icons

Similar to Windows XP’s large icons (128 x 128 pixels).

Extra Large Icons
