Change the HomeGroup Password

Learn how to change a HomeGroup’s password in Windows 7.

How do I change the HomeGroup password?

  1. Open the Control Panel in the Start Menu of any computer that belongs to the HomeGroup you want to change the password.
  2. Open HomeGroup in the Control Panel.

    Note: If HomeGroup is not available, change View by to Large icons at the top right of the Control Panel.

  3. Click Change the password in the Other homegroup actions section.

  4. Click Change the password.

  5. Type the new password and then click Next.

  6. Click Finished when the password has been successfully changed.

How do I change the HomeGroup password on the rest of the computers in the HomeGroup?

  1. Open HomeGroup in the Control Panel or select the HomeGroup in Windows Explorer and then click Type new password.

  2. Type the new password and then click Next.

  3. Click Finish when the password has been successfully changed.
