Disable or Change the Windows 7 Device Failed to Connect System Sound

Learn how to turn off or change the device failed to connect system sound in Windows 7.

The Device Failed to Connect system sound plays when the computer doesn’t properly connect to a device (printer, digital camera, memory stick, etc.) when it’s plugged in.

  1. Type system sounds in the Start Menu’s search box.

  2. Select Change system sounds in the search results.

  3. Select Device Failed to Connect in the Windows section under Program Events.

  4. To disable it: choose none in the drop-down list under Sounds

    To change it: choose a different sound in the drop-down list under Sounds or click the Browse button and browse for a sound file from any of the the other sound schemes or of your own.

  5. Click the OK button to save the changes.
