Learn how to disable Internet Explorer’s Save this program to disk option in Windows 7.
If you enable this policy, users cannot save a program to disk by clicking the Save This Program to Disk command while attempting to download a file. The file will not be downloaded and users will be informed that the command is not available.
If you disable this policy or do not configure it, users can download programs from their browsers.
Disable IE’s Save This Program to Disk Option
- Type gpedit.msc in the Start menu’s search box and then press Enter.
Note: This guide shows you how to make changes to Windows 7 using Group Policy. Group Policy is not available in Home versions of Windows 7.
- Navigate to User Configuration, Administrative Templates, Windows Components, Internet Explorer, and then select Browser menus in the left column of the Group Policy editor.
- Double-click Disable Save this program to disk option in the Settings section of the Group Policy editor.
- Select Enable and then click OK to save the changes.
