Hide Windows Marketplace

Learn how to hide the “Windows Marketplace” in Windows 7.

This setting prevents users from access the “Get new programs from Windows Marketplace” task from the Programs Control Panel in Category View, Programs and Features in Classic View, and Get Programs.

Windows Marketplace allows users to purchase and/or download various programs to their computer for installation.

Enabling this feature does not prevent users from navigating to Windows Marketplace using other methods.

If this feature is disabled or is not configured, the “Get new programs from Windows Marketplace” task link will be available to all users.

Hide the “Windows Marketplace”

  1. Type gpedit.msc in the Start menu’s search box and then press Enter.

    Note: This guide shows you how to make changes to Windows 7 using Group Policy. Group Policy is not available in Home versions of Windows 7.

  2. Navigate to User Configuration, Administrative Templates, Control Panel, and then select Programs in the left column of the Group Policy editor.

  3. Double-click Hide “Windows Marketplace” in the Settings section of the Group Policy editor.
  4. Select Enable and then click OK to save the changes.
