Join an Existing HomeGroup

Learn how to connect to an existing HomeGroup in Windows 7.

How do I join a HomeGroup?

  1. Open the Control Panel from the Start Menu.
  2. Select HomeGroup in the Control Panel.

Note: If HomeGroup is not available, change View by to Large icons at the top right of the Control Panel.

  3. Click Join now.

Note: If you receive a message saying the network location needs to be set to Home before you can create or join a HomeGroup, check out my Change Network Location guide.

  4. Check off what types of files to share with trusted computers on the HomeGroup you’re about to join and then click Next.

  5. Type the password given when the HomeGroup was created and then click Next.

Note: Learn how to find out the password of a HomeGroup.

  6. Click Finish and you’re done!

I have already created a homegroup on my PC. But in my laptop, instead of getting the “Join” button, it is asking me to create a group. It is not detecting my homegroup i think.

Please can you tell me what can i do to solve this problem?
