Learn how to prevent a user backing up Windows 7.
This setting lets you disable the data file backup functionality.
If this setting is enabled, users cannot back up data files.
If this setting is disabled or not configured, users can back up data files.
Prevent a User from Backing up Data Files
- Type gpedit.msc in the Start menu’s search box and then press Enter.
Note: This guide shows you how to make changes to Windows 7 using Group Policy. Group Policy is not available in Home versions of Windows 7.
- Navigate to User Configuration, Administrative Templates, Windows Components, Backup, and then select Client in the left column of the Group Policy editor.
- Double-click Turn off the ability to back up data files in the Settings section of the Group Policy editor.
- Select Enable and then click OK to save the changes.
