Prevent Programs from Suggesting Changes to My Default Search Provider

Learn how to stop websites from suggesting downloading and setting their Internet Explorer search provider as the default in Windows 7.

Prevent Suggested Search Providers

  1. Open the Control Panel from the Start menu.
  2. Open Internet Options in the Control Panel.

    Note: If Internet Options is not available, change View by to Large icons at the top right of the Control Panel.

  3. Click Settings in the Search section of the Internet Properties window.

  4. Check off Prevent programs from suggesting changes to my default search provider and then click Close.
