Remove Change Password from the Windows Security Dialog Box

Learn how to prevent users from changing their password on demand in Windows 7.

This setting disables the “Change Password” button on the Windows Security dialog box (which appears when you press Ctrl+Alt+Del).

However, users are still able to change their password when prompted by the system. The system prompts users for a new password when an administrator requires a new password or their password is expiring.

Prevent On Demand Password Change

  1. Type gpedit.msc in the Start menu’s search box and then press Enter.

Note: This guide shows you how to make changes to Windows 7 using Group Policy. Group Policy is not available in Home versions of Windows 7.

  2. Navigate to User Configuration, Administrative Templates, System, and then select Ctrl+Alt+Del Options in the left column of the Group Policy editor.

If you lost windows password. I think the best solution is making a windows password recovery disk with the third part utility. The disk works perfectly to recover windows password to “Blank”. It is also useful for administrator password recovery, you can wrote it to an blank CD or USB flash drive to recover administrator password. Booting up and clearing a password takes a minute or two works like a charm.

If you lost windows password, you can go into safe mode (F8 when booting up) to recover windows password while you forgot user account password, but if you forgot administrator password, there is no way to change it, you must use software to recover administrator password. Last week, I forgot my Windows administrator password. Finally I use Windows Password Seeker to recover my Windows password successfully. It’s worth a try. http://www.passwordseeker.com
