Learn how to prevent users from changing their password on demand in Windows 7.
This setting disables the “Change Password” button on the Windows Security dialog box (which appears when you press Ctrl+Alt+Del).
However, users are still able to change their password when prompted by the system. The system prompts users for a new password when an administrator requires a new password or their password is expiring.
Prevent On Demand Password Change
- Type gpedit.msc in the Start menu’s search box and then press Enter.
Note: This guide shows you how to make changes to Windows 7 using Group Policy. Group Policy is not available in Home versions of Windows 7.
- Navigate to User Configuration, Administrative Templates, System, and then select Ctrl+Alt+Del Options in the left column of the Group Policy editor.
- Double-click Remove change password in the Settings section of the Group Policy editor.
- Select Enable and then click OK to save the changes.
