Restore Windows 7 to a Previously Backed Up System Image
- Make sure the device with the backed up system image is connected to the computer.
- Insert the System Repair Disc in the computer’s CD/DVD drive and then restart or turn it on.
Note: Didn’t make a System Repair Disc? Shame on you. Good thing you can download and burn one from the bottom of my guide on creating a System Repair Disc [1].
- Press any key on the keyboard when asked if you want to boot off the CD.
[2]Note: If the computer doesn’t ask to boot from the CD/DVD see the computer’s manual on how to set the BIOS boot order. You need to set the computer to boot from the CD/DVD drive before the hard drive.
- Once the System Repair Disc has been fully booted from select the language and keyboard input method and then click Next.
[3] - Select Restore your computer using a system image that you created earlier and then click Next.
[4] - To restore the computer to the last available system image click Next.
[5]Note: If you need to select an older system image, scroll down to the How-to Select Older System Images below.
- Click Next in the additional options window.
[6] - Click Finished to start the re-imaging of the computer.
[7] - Click Yes if you’re really sure you want to re-image the computer. All data in the current state of the computer will be erased and the computer will be restored to the state of the image you’re restoring to.

How-to Select Older System Images
- Check off Select a system image and then click Next.
[9] - Select the date range of the system image you want to restore from and then click Next.
[10] - If there were more than one system images created during the date range you selected, pick the image to restore from created during the date range and then click Next.
[11] - Click Next in the additional options window.

- Click Finished to start the re-imaging of the computer.

- Click Yes if you’re really sure you want to re-image the computer. All data in the current state of the computer will be erased and the computer will be restored to the state of the image you’re restoring to.
