Set the Power Button Action in Power Options

Learn how to set Windows 7 to do nothing, sleep, hibernate, or shut down when the power button is pressed.

  1. Open the Control Panel from the Start menu.
  2. Open Power Options in the Control Panel.


    Note: If Power Options is not available, change View by to Large icons at the top right of the Control Panel.

  3. Select Change plan settings next to the power plan you want to edit.


  4. Select Change advanced power settings.


  5. Select Change settings that are currently unavailable.


  6. Set the Power button action under Power buttons and lid and then click OK to save the changes.
