Troubleshooting a Stop 0×00000124

Learn how to troubleshoot the Stop 0×00000124 Stop Error (BSOD) in Windows 7.

What caused the error?

The Stop 0×00000124 message occurs when Windows 7 has a problem handling a PCI-Express device.  It usually happens when adding or removing a hot-pluggable PCI-Express device.  Sometimes this error can occur because of PCI-Express driver or hardware problems.

How do I fix it?

  • Make sure you’ll applied all Windows 7 updates.
  • Make sure you’re using the latest drivers for the PCI-Express device.
  • If you have more than one PCI-Express device, remove one at a time to figure out which one is causing the problem.
