Troubleshooting a Stop 0xFE or BUGCODE_USB_DRIVER

Learn how to troubleshoot the Stop 0xFE or BUGCODE_USB_DRIVER Stop Error (BSOD) in Windows 7.

What caused the error?

The Stop 0xFE message occurs if the kernel detects an error in a USB driver.

How do I fix it?

  • Check the computer motherboard’s manufacturer’s web site for updated system firmware.
  • Try upgrading the firmware drivers of all USB devices attached to the computer.
  • Make sure all hardware attached to the computer is compatible with Windows 7.
  • Try removing USB devices and hubs one-by-one to try and find which device is causing the problem.
