Learn how to disable a user from restoring files from a Windows backup in Windows 7.
This setting lets you disable file restore functionality.
If this setting is enabled, the file restore program is disabled.
If this setting is disabled or not configured, the file restore program is enabled and users can restore files.
Prevent a User from Restoring Files from a Backup
- Type gpedit.msc in the Start menu’s search box and then press Enter.
Note: This guide shows you how to make changes to Windows 7 using Group Policy. Group Policy is not available in Home versions of Windows 7.
- Navigate to User Configuration, Administrative Templates, Windows Components, Backup, and then select Client in the left column of the Group Policy editor.
- Double-click Turn off restore functionality in the Settings section of the Group Policy editor.
- Select Enable and then click OK to save the changes.
