Uncover Windows 7's Hidden Local-specific Aero Themes

Learn how to find and use hidden Windows 7 Aero themes.

When you personalize your Windows 7 desktop you’ll notice a few Aero themes bundles with Windows 7.  Architecture, Characters, Landscapes, Nature, Scenes, and a theme for your country or region.

What if I told you there were more hidden Aero themes available.  Windows 7 includes other locale-specific Aero themes like Australia, Canada, Africa, and Europe.  You just have to know where to find them.

Enable Windows 7’s Hidden Aero Themes

  1. Open Windows Explorer.
  2. Click one time in a blank space in Windows Explorer’s address bar and replace it’s contents with C:\Windows\Globalization\MCT and then press Enter.

Note: You won’t be able to browse to the MCT folder because it’s hidden.

  3. To install a hidden theme, open one of the MCT-XX folders, open the theme folder, and then double-click the theme file to install it.
  4. The theme will automatically activate and become installed in the My Themes section of the Personalization window.
