How to shutdown, restart, or sleep Windows 8

It’s not hard to shutdown, restart, or put a Windows 8 computer to sleep. It’s just not easy to find at first.

So you start using Windows 8 for the first time and when you’re done you want to shut it down, but there’s one little problem. You can’t find the shutdown button!

No worries. It’s not hard to get to once you know where to find it.

Shutdown, Restart, or Sleep a Windows 8 PC

  1. Open the Charms bar by moving your mouse to the top or bottom right corner of your screen. If you are using a touch screen device, slide your finger from the right edge of the screen toward the center of the screen to show the Charms bar.

  2. Click Settings in the Charms bar.

  3. Click Power and then select whether to Sleep, Shutdown, or Restart the computer.

  1. this should have been a default feature in Windows 8, as in the button should be right on the screen, instead of clicking or swiping over here and there to locate the button.
