Add or Remove Folders Watched by Windows Media Center’s Library

How to add or remove local or shared folders Windows Media Center watches.

Add a Folder to Watch

Note: Windows Media Center’s Library watches the same folders as Windows Media Player’s Library. If you add folders to Windows Media Player’s Library Windows Media Center will watch them too.

On this computer: Watch folders located on the same computer as Windows Media Center.

  1. Open settings under Tasks in Windows Media Center.

  2. Select Library Setup.
  3. Select Add folder to watch and then select Next.

  4. Select Add folders on this computer and then select Next.

  5. Navigate to the folder you want Windows Media Center to watch by selecting the + signs to drill down to it if needed and then check it off.

  6. Select Next and then select Finish on the next screen.

From another computer: Watch folder across a network on another computer.

  1. Follow steps 1 - 3 above.
  2. Select Add shared folders from another computer.

  3. Check off the shared folder(s) you want Windows Media Center to watch.

  4. Select Next and then select Finish on the next screen.

Stop Watching a Folder

  1. Open settings under Tasks in Windows Media Center.

  2. Select Library Setup.
  3. Select Stop watching a folder and then select Next.

  4. Uncheck the folder(s) you want Windows Media Center to stop watching and then select Next.

  5. Select Finish on the next screen.
