Add a Folder to Watch

Note: Windows Media Center’s Library watches the same folders as Windows Media Player’s Library. If you add folders to Windows Media Player’s Library [1] Windows Media Center will watch them too.

On this computer: Watch folders located on the same computer as Windows Media Center.

  1. Open settings under Tasks in Windows Media Center.

    [2]

  2. Select Library Setup.
  3. Select Add folder to watch and then select Next.

    [3]

  4. Select Add folders on this computer and then select Next.

    [4]

  5. Navigate to the folder you want Windows Media Center to watch by selecting the + signs to drill down to it if needed and then check it off.

    [5]

  6. Select Next and then select Finish on the next screen.

From another computer: Watch folder across a network on another computer.

  1. Follow steps 1 – 3 above.
  2. Select Add shared folders from another computer.

    [4]

  3. Check off the shared folder(s) you want Windows Media Center to watch.

    [6]

Note: If you need help sharing or accessing shared folders across a network see my guides on sharing a folder [7] and browsing a network [8].

  4. Select Next and then select Finish on the next screen.

Stop Watching a Folder

  1. Open settings under Tasks in Windows Media Center.

    [2]

  2. Select Library Setup.
  3. Select Stop watching a folder and then select Next.

    [3]

  4. Uncheck the folder(s) you want Windows Media Center to stop watching and then select Next.

    [9]

  5. Select Finish on the next screen.
