Hey i did backup using regedit, and I played around with some of the HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT permission settings and now i cant open any program or file in my computer. i'm really really frantic because i cant even open 'my computer' or click 'properties' for my computer.

i tried to backup using the .reg file i exported earlier but it says that 'some keys are open by the registry or other processes' but i have nothing on except mozilla and regedit and i have restarted my laptop several times.

is there another way to return to default registry settings?

please help!!

Using regedit -> file -> export is by far faster, easier, and more reliable. System restore will not work if there is a bad link (ie. you deleted software manually or moved important files). The export function creates a .reg file which will always work, can be edited, and can be saved on a thumb drive or other backup media.
