When I change it, it won’t connect to the internet. What should I change it to?

I am not sure about this, but I think since I routed my DNS through OpenDNS they change my public IP anyway. I switched to OpenDNS to get faster service rather then rely on my ISP’s DNS server.
I might be wrong and it only changes my computer’s Ip and not the public. But something else some might want to know about is that your MAC address can also leave a footprint as well, you CAN change that yourself to just about anything you want, or it at least worked for me on a Vista OS.

Thank you so much, I switched my IP to dynamic the other day because we had internet problems and that seemed to fix it, but it ended up screwing up our network and I couldn’t figure out how I changed it in the first place (I am no computer whiz obviously!) I did so many searches and came up with all the wrong tutorials, or ones that only applied to XP or older versions of Windows, or forums where someone asks “how do I do this?” and rather than give a simple explanation as you’ve done here, they ask “why do you want to do that, what kind of connection do you have blah blah blah” who cares, just tell me how to do what I’m asking!! Phew, you just saved me after about an hour of fruitless searching, thank you thank you thank you!!!
