Enable Remote Assistance

1. Right-click Computer in the Start menu and then select Properties.
2. Click Remote settings in the Tasks section on the left side of the System window.
3. Check off Allow Remote Assistance connections to this computer.

4. Click OK in the System Properties window.

Note: If you’re using Windows Vista’s firewall, Remote Assistance will automatically be allowed when you enable Remote Assistance. If you’re using another firewall, you need to allow port 3389 for Remote Assistance to work.

Configure Remote Assistance

1. Right-click Computer in the Start menu and then select Properties.
2. Click Remote settings in the Tasks section on the left side of the System window.
3. Click the Advanced button in the Remote Assistance section of the System Properties window.

4. Check off Allow this computer to be controlled remotely in the Remote control section if you want the helper to be able to control your computer. If you leave this unchecked the helper will only be able to view your desktop.

5. You can set the maximum amount of time the invitation will remain active from 1-99 minutes, hours, or days in the Invitations section.
6. Choose if you only want invitations to be created for Windows Vista or later computers in the Invitations section. Invitations that only work on Windows Visa or better take advantage of newer more secure technology introduced in Vista.
7. Click OK to save these settings.
