Disable a Service

1. Open the Control Panel in the Start menu.
2. Make sure the Control Panel is in classic view by clicking classic view in the left column of the Control Panel.

   

3. Open Administrative Tools.

   

4. Open Services.

   

5. Right-click the service you want to disable and then click Properties.
6. Select Disabled for the Startup type.

   

To re-enable a service in Windows Vista, follow the steps above but select Automatic as the Startup type.

   WARNING. Many services are critical to proper system operation. Other service provide functionality that are essential to the applications you run. The explanations provided in control panel are NOT complete. Also be aware that the benefits of disabling services are highly overrated.

   Service should only be disabld when you understand what they do and there is a specific need.
