Recover the Original Version of a Picture Edited using Windows Vista’s Photo Gallery

Learn how to get the original versions of pictures back that were edited using Windows Vista’s Photo Gallery.

Let’s say you cropped a picture in the Windows Photo Gallery for Windows Vista. After you saved the cropped picture you decide you liked it better before it was cropped and you want the old original picture back.

Windows Photo Gallery has you covered and I’m going to show you how to get it back. You see, every picture that’s edited in Windows Photo Gallery has its original version backed up just encase you want the original back.

Recover Original Pictures

  1. Right-click the Start button and then select Explore.
  2. Paste or type %LocalAppData%\Microsoft\Windows Photo Gallery\Original Images in the address bar and then press enter on your keyboard.

  3. All of the original images will show up in this folder. All you have to do is cut and paste to get them back.

Note: If you frequently edit pictures and need to free up some hard drive space you can browse to this folder and delete these pictures from time to time.

Search recover deleted files in Google.

Other than the recycle bin, there’s no other way I know of to recover deleted files in Windows natively.
