Introduction

This guide shows you how to change the default version of Windows to boot up in a dual boot environment in Windows Vista’s boot manager.

Set the Default OS in Boot Manager

1. Click the Start button.
2. Right-click Computer in the Start Menu.
3. Select Properties.
4. Click Advanced system settings in the left column of the System window.
5. Click the Settings button under Startup and Recovery in the Advanced tab.
6. Choose which version of Windows to be the default under Default operating system.

7. If you’d like to reduce the boot up time you can reduce the time to display list of operating systems to 5 or 10 seconds instead of 30.
8. Click OK to save the changes and restart your computer.

When you start your computer it’ll boot up to the default operating system you set. You can always choose a different version of Windows to boot from using the down arrow when you see the boot manager during the boot up process.
