Introduction
This guide shows you how to stop Windows Vista from playing the startup sound when Windows Vista is booting up (when the Windows logo appears for a few seconds during the boot process) or stop all system and program sounds all together.
Stop the Startup Sound
When Windows Vista is booting up a startup sound is played usually at the same time a glowing Windows logo is shown to tell you Vista is fully booted up. You can turn this sound off by doing the following:
- Search for Sound in the search box in the Start Menu.
- Click Sound in the search results.
- Select the Sounds tab in the Sound properties window.
- Uncheck Play Windows Startup Sound.
- Click OK to save the changes.
Stop All System and Program Sounds
You can stop all system and programs sounds from playing by doing the following:
- Search for Sound in the search box in the Start Menu.
- Click Sound in the search results.
- Select the Sounds tab in the Sound properties window.
- Change the Windows Default sound scheme to No Sounds under sound schemes.
- Click OK to save the changes.
