How-to troubleshoot the Stop Message: Stop 0×24 or NTFS FILE SYSTEM.
The Stop 0×24 message indicates that a problem occurred within the Nfts.sys which is the driver file that allows the system to read and write to the NTFS file system (hard drive).
Resolving the Problem
Before you can fix this problem you need to figure out what caused it. Did you recently install new software or hardware? This will help out a lot when troubleshooting the problem.
- Malfunctioning SCSI or ATA hardware or drivers can stop the system from being able to read or write to the hard drive. Check to make sure the cables and hard drive are working properly.
- Verify tools that continuously monitor your system like antivirus, backup, or defragmenters are compatible with Windows Vista.
- Your nonpaged pool memory might be low. Add more RAM to fix this problem.
