Stop 0×50 or PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA

Posted By Brent Trahan On September 11, 2008 @ 10:09 am In All, Troubleshooting, Vista, Windows | No Comments

A Stop 0×50 message indicates that requested data was not in memory. Defective memory (including main memory, L2 cache, and video card memory), or incompatible software (including antivirus and remote control software) might be the cause of 0×50 messages.

Resolving the Problem

Before you can fix this problem you need to figure out what caused it. Did you recently install new software or hardware? This will help out a lot when troubleshooting the problem.

  1. Run Windows Memory Diagnostics [1] to see if it’s the memory causing this problem.
  2. If you recently installed new hardware lately, check and make sure it’s not the cause of this problem. Try removing or replacing it.
  3. 0×50 messages are also caused by faulty drivers. If a driver is named in the message, try rolling the driver back [2] to a previous working version or uninstall it. You might need to boot Windows Vista in Safe Mode [3] to uninstall the driver.
  4. System services can also cause 0×50 messages. If you recently installed software try uninstalling it or disabling services [4] installed by it.
  5. Check your hard drive for errors. Run Check Disk [5] to scan and fix problems on your hard drive.
