How-to troubleshoot the Stop Message: Stop 0x9F or DRIVER POWER STATE FAILURE.

The Stop 0x9F message indicates that a driver is in an inconsistent or invalid power state. This error typically occurs during shutdown, suspending, or resuming from sleep.

Resolving the Problem

Before you can fix this problem you need to figure out what caused it. Did you recently install new software or hardware? This will help out a lot when troubleshooting the problem.

This error is caused by faulty device drivers, software, or system services.

  1. If you recently installed a new device or updated a device’s drivers, try uninstalling the new device or roll back the updated drivers to their previous version.
  2. If you recently installed or updated software, try uninstalling it to see if it’s the cause of the problem.
  3. If you or an application recently installed a system service, try disabling it to see if it’s the cause of the problem.
