Sysclean – A Free Virus Scan

Posted By Brent Trahan On December 19, 2005 @ 3:48 pm In All, Tools | 21 Comments

Introduction

Think your computer might have a virus? I’ve put together a free virus scanning tool that scans your computer for viruses and removes any it finds automatically. This scanner was created by a few freely available tools from Trend Micro. I call it sysclean because it uses a scanning engine called sysclean created by Trend Micro.

About Sysclean

Sysclean is not a very user friendly scanner right out of the box. I took all the necessary files needed to properly scan your computer, added a few switches to the launcher, and made using sysclean as easy as double-clicking an icon.

Notice: Sysclean is not meant to protect your computer from viruses. Sysclean only scans your computer and removes any viruses it finds. You need to purchase antivirus software for full real time protection.

System Requirements

Sysclean runs on the following operating systems:

  • Windows Server NT 4.0
  • Windows 9x
  • Windows Me
  • Windows 2000
  • Windows Server 2000
  • Windows Server 2003
  • Windows XP

Sysclean has not been tested to work on Windows Vista.

Download Sysclean

Download my sysclean package here [1]. [Mar 23, 2008 | 5.183.00]

Notice: The virus pattern files are updated frequently. You should re-download this package from this page about every week to make sure you’re scanning your computer with up-to-date virus pattern files.

Users Guide

Using sysclean is easy.

  1. Download my sysclean package.
  2. Unzip it and save it somewhere easy to find (like your desktop).
  3. Open the folder called sysclean you unzipped.
  4. Double-click START VIRUS SCAN.
  5. A DOS looking box will appear with lots of activity.
  6. When the DOS looking box disappears, the virus scan has finished.

You can see the scan results by opening the file called sysclean.log located in the sysclean folder you unzipped.

For more information about the sysclean scanner view the sysclean readme file [2].
