screenres_2.pngI hate looking at a screen with a resolution of 800×600 or less.  As a webmaster computers with a screen resolution of 800×600 or less is a pain in the “you know what”.  This guide makes the point why the 800×600 or less screen resolutions are a thing of the past and how to change yours if need be.

Why Should I Change My Screen Resolution?

Why not?  Get with the times man.  All modern applications, websites, and even Windows the XP operating system are created to work best at higher resolutions than 800×600.

Most flat screen monitors don’t work well in 800×600 or less screen resolutions.  Their screens are usually blurry at that low of a resolution.

You can see much more with higher resolutions.  Check out the screenshots below of a low and high resolution screen.

If you’ve been used to a low resolution screen it will only take a few days to adjust to a higher resolution screen.  Once you adjust you’ll never go back.

How Do I Change My Screen Resolution?

Right-click anywhere there is empty space on your desktop and select properties.

Click the settings tab.

Move the bar under screen resolution to the right for a higher screen resolution.  A good number to start with is 1024×768 if you are used to a low 800×600 screen resolution.

Most flat screen monitors have a native screen resolution.  Their native screen resolution is what screen resolution they give you the best picture at.  I highly recommend using your flat screen monitor’s native resolution if you have one.
